September 9, 2016 – These are trying times in industrial distribution. An ongoing industrial products recession that started when oil prices began their plunge in the summer of 2014 continues to grip the entire sector, putting a strain on distributors and suppliers alike. Many thought conditions would have improved by now, and certain signs say they have. But several prominent distributors say meaningful recovery is still a ways away.
In a post-earnings conference call in early July, MSC Industrial CEO Erik Gershwind discussed an overall pessimistic view across the market, saying that previous notions of industrial recovery “has given way to more belt tightening and less optimism among our customers. He went on to mention hearing more talk about “furloughs, time off and even some layoffs, among distributors and suppliers alike. Likewise, Fastenal’s Q2 fiscal report mentioned that though Q1 showed some signs of economic improvement, it expected plant shutdowns and slowdowns to continue into the third quarter.

PITTSBURGH, PA – May 17, 2016 —Lewis-Goetz, an ERIKS Company, announced an exclusive distribution agreement for the FLEXION™ hydraulic hose brand in North America. The partnership allows Lewis-Goetz, which operates under the name ERIKS Industrial Services in Canada, to deliver consistent quality, expertise, and technical support across a wide range of hydraulic hose products and services from nearly 100 locations in the U.S. and Canada.
As the leading hydraulic hose brand in Europe for more than 40 years, FLEXION™ hoses offer the highest-quality engineered fluid connector solutions available today. While hydraulic systems continuously demand higher working pressures that can come at the cost of hose flexibility, FLEXION™ hoses are designed—and proven—to meet the best of both worlds by handling 50 percent more pressure than required by industry standards and providing a superior bending radius over alternative hoses. FLEXION™ hoses also provide increased abrasion and ozone resistances that are 10 times better than industry standards.
Jeremy Lloyd, North American product manager for Lewis-Goetz, said that bringing FLEXION™ hoses to the North American market will allow for customized product solutions for customers worldwide.
“Our top priority is working with our customers to meet their unique needs, rather than offering a one-size-fits-all solution,” Lloyd said. “The FLEXION™ line allows for product innovation to align with advances in coupling and plating technologies, as well as safe solutions for extreme environmental applications. Our customers’ safety and their needs for innovative solutions are the primary drivers for our continued development and expansion of this important ERIKS brand.”

Lewis-Goetz will display a variety of innovative sealing technologies and other value-added solutions for the refining industry, including Advanced Sealing’s ALKY-ONE™ gasket. First introduced in 2011, the ALKY-ONE™ gasket is the industry’s leading technology for combatting flange erosion and corrosion in hydrofluoric acid alkylation units (HF units), one of the most critical sealing applications in the oil-refining industry.
“ERRIC-Based Sealing Protocols for Leak-Free Performance” is a professional development seminar that will be co-presented by David Clover, Advanced Sealing; Dave Reeves, Sealing and Bolting Technologies LLC; and Mark Ruffin, Chevron USA, Inc. Clover’s presentation will discuss the ERRIC Sealing System–based protocols for leak-free performance, and covers the root causes of flange leakage, as well as the simple engineering principals, material, and procedural changes that can provide leak-free performance. The seminar provides participants with the tools and resources to quickly incorporate these improvements into their facilities.

New coupling system is optimized for use with the Goodall® Inferno and Super Inferno steam hoses to provide superior reliability, safety, and cost savings
PITTSBURGH, PA – March 2, 2016—Goodall® has introduced the DuraCrimp® coupling system, an exclusive and innovative crimping system for the next generation of Goodall steam hoses.
Specially designed for the Goodall Inferno ISO6134-2A and Super Inferno steam hoses, the DuraCrimp coupling system’s bolt-free connector eliminates steam leakage found with bolted clamps and failure risks associated with loose or warped bolts. The ergonomic system provides a permanent connection and long service life, while reducing installation time, saving maintenance costs, and preventing hose kinking.
In addition, the DuraCrimp coupling system’s unique safety handle was designed with an improved operator grip, enabling better manipulation of steam hoses. The handle also acts in eliminating kinks behind the couplings. Color-coded identification rings easily can be applied to the handle to track plant location or inspection frequency, and RFID chips also can be integrated to instantly obtain product data.
Lewis-Goetz and its subsidiary companies are the exclusive distributor of the Goodall® product line. Don Evans, president and CEO of Lewis-Goetz, said the DuraCrimp coupling system and Inferno steam hoses have undergone extensive testing and exceed ISO standards.
“Providing safe and reliable product solutions for end-markets and users are our top two concerns,” Evans explained. “The DuraCrimp coupling system is designed to ensure safe installation and a secure connection. The unique system also is much lighter in weight than standard fittings and clamps, which drastically reduces the risk of injury to the operator.”
For more information about the DuraCrimp coupling system or Lewis-Goetz’s full array of sealing, hose and conveyor products, services, and solutions, visit www.lewis-goetz.com or call (800) 937-9070.

Industrial company’s Pittsburgh location a staple since 1935
PITTSBURGH, PA – Dec. 9, 2015 —Lewis-Goetz is celebrating its 80th anniversary in Pittsburgh. Today’s company is significantly larger and more diverse than the Ft. Pitt Boulevard storefront founded by Ben Gooding, Sr. on Dec. 11, 1935. Goodings’ Boston Woven Hose & Rubber Company started as a hose company and by the early 1950s was known as Gooding Rubber Company.
By the early 1980s, the Pittsburgh-based Gooding Rubber Company had two locations, Pittsburgh and Beckley, West Virginia, and was dedicated to serving the steel and coal industries of the region. Sales posted in that time frame were about $11 million a year. Ben Gooding, Jr. eventually sold the Pittsburgh company to long-time employees Andy Lewis and Dave Goetz who laid out a plan to grow primarily by acquisition. Many acquisitions later, Lewis-Goetz has grown to 90-plus locations that now offer a complete line of industrial products and services including: industrial hose, hydraulic hose, gaskets and sealing products, and conveyor belts and accessories.
In 2007, the majority ownership in Lewis-Goetz was sold to Audax, a private equity investment firm. Then, in 2011, Lewis-Goetz was acquired by ERIKS, a 75-year-old Netherlands-based industrial service provider. This acquisition made Lewis-Goetz part of a global organization that consists of 450 branches in 27 countries.
“Our Pittsburgh heritage is an important part of our identity and our employees’ expertise and experience – the average tenure is 13 years – is a valued part of our success,” said Donald E. Evans
president and CEO, Lewis-Goetz.
With more than 1,200 employees, Lewis-Goetz posted sales of $435 million in 2014. Lewis-Goetz serves many industries including mining, steel, refineries, chemical and power generation with numerous industry-leading customers. As the company’s largest location, the Pittsburgh division provides best-practice coverage across North America. The Pittsburgh location features in-depth gasket fabrication capabilities with a flash cutter machine and 2D scanner, industrial and hydraulic hose production shops, metal hose welding area, and an extensive heavyweight conveyor belt inventory with service and production capabilities.
Lewis-Goetz and ERIKS North America headquarters are now located in Mt. Lebanon, a Pittsburgh suburb. The focus on growing through acquisitions and organic growth by providing superior customer service remains a core part of the company’s DNA.
“We will continue to grow through performance, going after niche markets and investing in people,” said Evans. “Our vision is to be the preferred industrial products and services provider for our product portfolio to OEM and MRO customers in diverse industries. We will do this by providing a broad range of technical products to our customers supported by deep knowledge of technology and its application, and a passion for problem-solving.”
